XL Catlin appoints new leaders to environmental team

Marc Estrada and Brian Hughes are a part of XL Catlin's efforts to expand its reach in the environmental insurance market

Two new executives have joined XL Catlin’s Canadian environment insurance team. Marc Estrada has been named as the environmental team lead and Brian Hughes has been brought on as assistant vice-president of environmental underwriting.

“While other insurers have shied away from the pollution insurance market, we’re reinforcing our resources and talent to meet our clients’ environmental risk management needs and keep us on our path of profitable growth,” says Matt O’Malley, the company’s president of North America environmental insurance.

Both Estrada and Hughes will operate out of the insurer’s Toronto office. Estrada was most recently at AIG, where he focused on underwriting contractors pollution liability and combined general liability and pollution liability risks. Hughes joins XL Catlin after spending 16 years at Zurich underwriting environmental coverages, including contractors pollution and professional liability and fixed site pollution liability.

“Increasingly, our clients and their brokers are looking for new, innovative solutions for evolving exposures. Effective environmental risk management takes considerable knowledge and technical skill. Marc and Brian add a wealth of experience that I am certain will strengthen our existing relationships and expand our reach in the market,” says Nick Greggains, the CEO and country manager for XL Catlin Canada.
