The Inland Marine Underwriters Association comes to Toronto

Sam Slade of Gen Re will act as chairman of the new regional advisory committee

The New York City-based Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA) is setting up shop in Toronto with its first international regional advisory committee.

Sam Slade, a vice president and senior reinsurance underwriting specialist at Gen Re, will act as chairman. Mauricio Zani, a senior commercial underwriter at Burns & Wilcox Canada, and Gord Rider, a senior underwriter at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty, join Slade as officers of the committee.

The Toronto-based group will begin with eight members but that may increase to 10 members by 2018 depending on the need for and interest in the group.

“We are extremely pleased to announce our tenth regional advisory committee and our first international one. Toronto is a hub for the Canadian insurance [Property and Casualty] industry with many interested underwriters and brokers that fit the IMUA business model,” said Kevin O’Brien, president and CEO of IMUA.

“That [model] is to provide education and a forum for issues which are of common concern to companies doing inland marine insurance business and associate members involved with the industry,” he added.
