Steve Thomas steps down as CEO; David Richards appointed successor

Jardine Lloyd Thompson Canada Inc. has announced the appointment of David Richards as its chief executive officer. Richards succeeds Steve Thomas, who having completed the restructuring of JLT Canada over the last two years, has decided to step down and return to Australia.

Richards joined JLT Canada as executive vice-president and national specialty leader for natural resources in 2013. He has more than 24 years experience in the insurance and risk management industry and has held various senior management positions within the insurance broking sector, including being executive vice-president for Aon Canada.

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of David as chief executive of JLT Canada. His client advocacy, management experience and deep knowledge of the Canadian insurance industry is ideally suited to leading JLT Canada on its next phase of growth, supported by the strong senior management team that has been assembled over the last two years and a continued appetite from the JLT Group to invest in building out its Canadian operations,” said John Lloyd, chairman of JLT Canada, in a press release.

“I would also like to thank Steve for his contribution in having led the restructuring of JLT Canada over the last two years.”
