Special POI delivery by drone

U.S.-based car insurance app says it has delivered the world’s first policy through an unmanned aerial vehicle

Would you prefer to receive your proof of insurance (POI) in the mail, your inbox or by drone?

The drone option is now available to customers of San Francisco-based Go, an iPhone app that facilitates the purchase of car insurance. The company is claiming to have delivered the world’s first insurance policy through this method.

Customers of the service currently have their POI instantly inserted into their Apple Wallet. In addition to that, customers can choose to have it personally delivered by drone or robot.

Ryan Klenz, a 26-year-old from OshKosh, Wis., is the first recipient of this landmark delivery. “I found Go on [Apple’s] app store, snapped my license, used Apple Pay, and chose ‘drone’ for delivery. It was amazing. I can’t believe you can actually do that,” Klenz said in a statement.

The service is only available in areas in which the commercial airspace is authorized by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.
