RISK: On the terror watch list? Here’s your assault rifle!

Potential terrorists were approved to buy guns and bombs more than 90 percent of the time

During the last decade, Americans on terrorism watch lists tried to buy guns or bombs 2,233 times, the Government Accountability Office reported. More than 90 percent of the time, they cleared background checks and were approved to buy.

Convictions for domestic assault, illegal residency status and a history of dangerous mental illness can prevent Americans from buying firearms, but being on the terror watch list won’t.

Take a look at the New York Times’ story “Gun Rights for Terrorists” for more details on why a potential terrorist can easily buy an assault rifle.
