MPI offers car insurance rebate

$16 million in auto insurance premium rebates have been approved.

Manitoba’s Public Utilities Board has approved $16 million in additional auto insurance premium rebates.

About 136,000 customers who have already received money back from provincial insurer MPI will be getting more.

Another 22,000 customers who haven’t yet had any rebates will now receive them.

MPI’s move comes after two consumer groups called for an inquiry into how the insurer was calculating its rebates.

Many drivers complained or were confused about what they received.

MPI originally planned rebates of 10%, but was ordered by the utilities board to increase that to 45%.
