Levinson replaces Lundy as president of Zurich Canada

Appointment in line with Zurich North America's 'broader Group strategy'.

David Levinson has been appointed president and chief agent of Zurich Canada, following its former president and CEO, Patrick Lundy’s departure from the company.

Lundy, who served as head of Zurich’s Canada business for its North America commercial division since 2012, “left Zurich to pursue other opportunities”, according to Jennifer Schneider, Zurich North America’s director of media and public relations.

The appointment of Levinson is in line with Zurich North America’s broader Group strategy, she added, that saw the creation of a new North America Commercial Insurance unit and leadership team, “bringing together our expertise from across our corporate and commercial businesses, which will allow us to simplify our customer interaction and go-to-market approach, enabling us to more consistently deliver for our customers and brokers.”levinson_david_300

Schneider said Levinson is responsible for “overseeing all aspects of our Canadian business, which includes all Corporate and Commercial business in Canada.”

He was formerly Regional Leader for the West Region in the Commercial Markets unit of Zurich North America and a member of the Commercial Markets senior leadership team.
“Levinson has been with Zurich for over 20 years, holding various senior leadership positions at Zurich North America,” Schneider said, and his experience enables him to understand the opportunities and challenges in Canada, where Zurich’s business is one of the largest commercial players, reporting over $935m in direct written premiums in 2015.

Push towards a simplified structure
The newly created unit and leadership team, called North America Commercial Insurance, replaces the former commercial markets and global corporate in North America units. Schneider confirmed the new unit is led by Paul Horgan, head of North America Commercial Insurance, who reports to Mike Foley, CEO of Zurich North America and James Shea, CEO of Commercial Insurance globally for Zurich.

“This simplified approach builds on our collective strengths and reinforces our position as a leading global insurance provider,” Horgan said. “Our new unit will service and support our multinational customers, as well as utilize our experience and expertise to deliver local solutions to our middle-market customers.”
North America Commercial Insurance will be aligned into four business segments: Property, Casualty, Construction and Middle Markets.

Lundy had “deepened relationships with brokers and customers”
During his tenure, Lundy was responsible for overseeing the governing operation and direction and management of market-facing commercial business in Canada. On its corporate website, Zurich had credited him with successfully integrating Canada into the Zurich North American structure, adding other highlights in his career at the company as “expanding Zurich Energy’s footprint to nine offices within the U.S., and deepening relationships with brokers and customers across the continent”.
Lundy had held executive management roles in both the U.S. and Canada, including Head of the Zurich Healthcare business unit for North America and president of the U.S. Energy Industry Segment.
