Gore Mutual president and CEO Kevin McNeil to retire

Heidi Sevcik, vice-president of claims, to succeed

After 15 years as president and chief executive officer of Gore Mutual,  Kevin McNeil has announced his intention to retire effective June 30, 2014.

In line with Gore Mutual’s succession plan, the board of directors announced that Heidi Sevcik, currently vice-president of claims, will become chief operating officer, reporting to McNeil, effective February 17, 2014. The board also announced its intention that Sevcik will become president and CEO of the company on July 1, 2014.

Kevin’s passion for excellence in all areas of our company and his respect for all our stakeholders has created a compassionate and customer focused culture,” said Charles Cipolla, chair of Gore Mutual’s board of directors, in a press release. “As we look toward the future, the Board is confident that Heidi’s leadership skills, breadth of experience and business insight will ensure the continued success of our company.”

For several years, the board has been committed to delivering a seamless and well planned CEO transition,” said McNeil. “Heidi has led our claims, personal insurance and commercial insurance underwriting operations. She is chair of management’s investment committee and a member of the company’s risk management and reinsurance committees. She is very well prepared for the CEO role. Under her leadership Gore Mutual will continue to provide excellent service to our brokers and policyholders and remain an employer of choice for our employees. With Heidi as CEO and the strength of the entire Gore Leadership Team, I am extremely confident in the future of Gore Mutual.”

Founded in 1839 (28 years before Confederation), Gore Mutual will celebrate its 175th anniversary in 2014.
