A Florida broker has been arrested for selling fraudulent policies to veterans’ families.

Patrice Sands, of Pompano Beach, allegedly sold policies at the Make-A-Wish Veterans charity in Miami. She deposited premiums in accounts tied to her business but didn’t secure policies for the families through any company licensed to transact insurance in Florida.

If convicted, Sands faces up to 25 years in prison.
