Chubb names new president for field operations in North America

Gerard Butler is a Chubb veteran who was recently chief operating officer for field operations in the region

Chubb Group has appointed Gerard (Jerry) Butler to the role of division president of field operations for the company’s North American insurance arm. This will have Butler oversee 48 offices in Canada and the U.S. He has also been named a senior vice president for Chubb Group.

Butler’s responsibilities include executing Chubb’s North American business strategies on a local level through the delivery of capabilities and services to the company’s agent and broker distribution partners.

The focus on local brokers is made possible through Chubb’s 48-branch network, which allows the insurer to stay close to its agent and broker partners, says the company through a statement provided to Canadian Insurance Top Broker. “With underwriting centered throughout this network, we are dedicated to working collaboratively with brokers…to craft and deliver differentiated insurance programs and solutions on a global basis,” reads the statement

“Jerry’s strong field management expertise, industry knowledge, and extensive leadership experience make him an ideal fit for this role,” says Lupica. “I look forward to working with him as he takes on this strategically pivotal role in helping to continue meeting the multifaceted needs of our agent and broker partners.”

Morrison will take on an advisory role for the remainder of 2017 and work with Chubb’s overseas general insurance division to provide strategic direction for the development of underwriting and distribution structures and processes to best serve the company’s expansion into the commercial middle market segment in Asia, Latin America and Europe.

Jeffrey Updyke will take on Butler’s former role as chief operating officer of North American field operations. Updyke will report to Butler and assist in the day-to-day management of North American field operations, with a specific focus on distribution management, data analytics and sales. In addition, he will oversee Chubb Insurance Solutions Agency.

Updyke has spent the last 26 years in the industry and most recently served as executive vice president and northeast and mid-Atlantic regional manager for Chubb’s commercial insurance unit.
