Bulletin: ICBC Offers “Safe Olympics” Tips

The upcoming Olympic Games mean more crowded streets, road closures and frustrated drivers in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland and Whister in February. To ward off accidents—and accompanying claims–The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) is urging drivers to make an extra effort to stay safe.

Their tips for safe driving during the Games include:

1) Make a special effort to drive carefully, leaving enough room between your car and those around you.

2) Acknowledge the new handheld cellphone/texting ban while behind the wheel.

3) Consider public transit or cycling to work once the Games begin and drivers face reduced street parking in downtown Vancouver.

4) Prepare for different weather conditions when you’re on the road.

5) Offer any guests a safe ride home, and drive responsibility after any Olympic celebrations.
