AIG veteran now leading company’s general insurance arm in North America

Lex Baugh was previously president of liability and financial lines at the insurer

Lex Baugh is now the CEO of AIG’s general insurance arm for North America.

In the newly created role, Baugh oversees AIG’s general insurance business in the U.S. and Canada, with responsibility for the development and execution of a profitable, client-focused strategy. He reports to Peter Zaffino, CEO, general insurance, as a member of the general insurance executive leadership team.

Baugh was most recently president of liability and financial lines at AIG. His other roles at AIG included president of global casualty, chief risk officer and head of strategic planning for property casualty.

“Lex brings an enormous amount of leadership experience to this role, with over 30 years at AIG,” said Zaffino in a statement. “I look forward to working with Lex and Chris Townsend, who we recently appointed as CEO of international general insurance, to transform our business globally into a profitable and growing organization, aligned with the market and with the needs and expectations of our clients and distribution partners.”

AIG’s executive team has been in a state of transformation in recent months. Zaffino left his position as president and CEO of Marsh this past summer to join the leadership team at AIG. The insurer also welcomed Brian Duperreault to the role of president and CEO in May. The month of October saw a new head of reinsurance, new CEO of international general insurance and new executive vice president for government affairs and public policy.
